You should consult an ophthalmologist if you experience vision changes, eye pain, redness, or symptoms like flashes of light or floaters. Regular eye exams are also essential for detecting conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, or macular degeneration, especially if you’re over 40 or have a family history of eye diseases. Regular visits are also recommended for managing hair loss, scalp conditions, or if you're considering cosmetic treatments like chemical peels or Botox.
An optometrist provides vision care, including eye exams and prescription glasses or contact lenses. An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor specializing in eye diseases and can perform surgeries like cataract removal, LASIK, or retinal treatments.
Cataracts are a clouding of the eye's natural lens, leading to blurry vision and sensitivity to light. They are typically treated with surgery, where the cloudy lens is replaced with a clear artificial lens, restoring vision effectively.
